David puts his pen down
Nancy Ouchida-Howells writes:
Last week, David and I were at Knuston Hall enjoying the companionship of the calligraphy participants. He wrote many signs for their Open Day and a number of entries in a Memorial Book. At the party, he got up to join in a dance and we sang “What shall we do with the drunken sailor?”. He was lively and in good spirits, but not eating custard and treacle pud.
Over the past six months, with antibiotics, David kept a urine infection under control but it rapidly spread to his chest on Monday. On Tuesday, he looked so poorly that I telephoned an ambulance to take him to Worthing Hospital. The doctors tried to stabilise him, but his heart suddenly stopped. He passed away peacefully at 4.50 pm on Tuesday 4 September with Nancy holding him.
The Funeral Service celebrating the life of David Howells will be at St. Julian’s Church where he was baptised, sang in the choir and hand-pumped the organ. The Service will be on Thursday 27 September 2012, at 2 pm. Those wishing to attend the burial at Mill Lane Cemetery, are welcome.
After the Service, you are warmly invited to tea and light refreshments in the Church Hall. For catering purposes, if possible, would you please advise me if you are attending?
