Until 9 Sept: Northumbrian Scribes Annual Exhibition, Let Calligraphy Flourish at Bede's World, Jarrow, NE32 3DY. Admission to the exhibition is free. Bede's World is home to Northumbrian Scribes. It is a magnificent modern venue with a first-rate museum and a farm, both of which relate to Anglo-Saxon culture.

28 Sep: St Martin-in-the-Fields Concert: In the Beginning was the Word. A Celebration of the Saint John's Bible in Words and Music. Works by Eric Whitacre, Gorecki and James MacMillan, with readings by Donald Jackson, Rabbi Jonathan Wittenburg and the Revd Nicholas Holtam. 2 Oct: The Writing Equipment Society's 30th Anniversary Meeting in conjunction with London University's Museum of Writing. For details, see The W.E.S. Meeting

3 Oct: The London Writing Equipment Show, at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton St, London W8 7NX, open from 10.3 0am. Admission £5. Children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult.
