Our ‘Celebrate Calligraphy’ Exhibition will commemorate the ninetieth anniversary of the Society of Scribes & Illuminators. Since its foundation in 1921 by students of Edward Johnston, the aim of the SSI has been to promote the highest possible standards of work. In this exhibition we endeavour to follow this tradition with exhibits selected from the most recent work of both Fellows and Lay Members of the Society.
The Society aims to show how calligraphy, illumination, heraldry and lettering have progressed and moved forward into the 21st century at a time when communication is no longer the sole province of the hand-written word. The Exhibition endeavours to show that, in both traditional and contemporary work, the hand-written word is still exciting, creative, innovative and relevant to today's needs.
The 84-page full-colour catalogue will be available in early November. It will be on sale at the exhibition venues as well as though the SSI Sales and Online Sales pages on this site.
